Lost Words
I answered your voice on my answering machine;
not ours as you weren’t here; alone I talked to memories
still silent framed taunts that looked blank back at me;
I remember when we used to have a laugh;
the camcorder buzz, recording forced moments
cold shoulders, I couldn’t bring myself to burn them
but I had burnt them on a disc.
The worn down film in the VCR - less of an epic,
more a silent masquerade of my emotions.
A picture not so perfect, toggling moments
up, then down aboard this endless roller coaster.
broken pairs with bad chemistry; a love with no vision
no we are just an orgy of emotions going nowhere fast
Knowing no love lasts passing an emotional intersection
rewinding the past laughs; but pause at the last half
marinated in guilt, swimming back strokes
through this river of mixed feelings.
Relentless love confronting hellish hate;
Heart blocked off to everyone, wrapped in police tape.
Rerecorded in a soliloquy of chase.
she bent my memories and I caught the bait.
Waiting for the red light to change,
for that 'click' of green to help me see.
I wore rose tinted goggles, swam against the tide
each wave an obstacle, and darling I was
just
too
tired.
