Remember
Remember me when I am gone away
Gone far away into the silent land
When you can no more hold me by the hand
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me, you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
Remember me when you often pray
On your knees, with hands tightly clasped
Though tears may fall, your voice be rasped
Know that I’m above you in a better place
I leave behind nothing but a single trace
A memory stranded in the light breeze
Floating through nothing, lost in tight weeds
Not governed by haste, but still at a waste
In the rush of confusion, all but an illusion
Trapped between lies, don’t know what I’ll find
To see the true mind, look past the eyes
Whatever’s heaven sent, I missed the trend
Depressing that it had to come to this conclusion
Don’t forget and become lost, stray from the end
