I just caught a virus on some bs. i deleted it cuz i found where it was at. but it turned most of my applications into .exe files and it wont let me open shit, i tried to do a system restore but i think it corrupted that too. any ideas how to fix my shit lol
oh and when i open something through word pad its a bunch of codes and says cannot open in DOS mode.

lol. depends on what virus it is.
you are describing two that come to mind. one a system restore SHOULD work.. but the other one.. well just throw your computer away because it's done.

when i click on system restore it asks for my approval then i click allow then not a damn thing happens. lol its pissing me off. i caught it before it went through everything but most my comp is fucced lol. do you have any ideas quo?

Hm. fuck that system restore crap. you need to completely redo your entire system. i believe the system restore you are talking about is where it makes consistent back-ups of your files so if you get an error you can set it back to like last week or whatever so you won't get the error ?Originally Posted by GrimReapa

try this.. if it works then it's an easy fix.
turn off your computer completely. turn it back on and hold down the F11 key (may be F12 key too.. i've had to do both). a menu should come up. look for either 'system restore', 'full system restore', or 'complete system restore'. then it should have on screen instructions to walk you through. of course this is the easiest method. it should wipe everything clean. the hassle will be re-installing everything. let me know. if it doesn't work.. what kinda computer (include make and model #) and possibly specs (don't think i'd need this but ehh) you running ?

Get Malware Anti-Bytes software. Run it, and restart. See if that fixes it. It should let you do a system restore afterwards, and you should be fine!
getting anti-bytes isnt going to help at this point...the virus has already restricted his access to applications....
ive had these types of viruses before, and if you dont get rid of them immediately, only thing you can do is a complete reinstall....everything on your computer is toast....
you need to get a windows disc, start you computer with it in the drive, and hit f11 to boot from the disc....then your going to have to find out what each component in your computer is and locate, download and install the drivers for them....

i went into all the files and restored them to defaults then went through f11 repaired the system restore files so i could open in through safe mode then restored it to two days ago and i fixed it. but it only worked cuz i went into the codes and caught the virus before it spread through everything. whew that was close
