i got 70 fuckin dollaz im thinkin about coppin the sb audigy 1 and a radio shack mic or a cheap sony mic has anybody got decent quality from some shit like thsi?????

buying an audigy 1 card is gonna gain u next to nothing from any other sound card. I suggest you use that $70 to get urself a cheap MXL 990 mic and save some more money for a cheap preamp. u can get a real cheap 1 channel preamp for like $40. u can probably go on ebay and find a MXL and a cheap preamp for under $100. buying an audigy 1 and a dynamic mic is just a complete waste of money.

they amplify the level of the mic....

output of condeser mics are very low...pre-amps boost them to a suitable level...

also they provide fantom power in most cases

the mxl 990 is alight i use to have 1 it can give u WAY better quality than a dynamic mic or cpu mic

Ok so the pre amp gives the condenser mic external power...

But when you say condensers "dont plug in" do you mean into the computer? If so, that's weird :S

no....condensors mics dont have a power source like most dynamic mics.....so pre-amps SHOULD come with PHANTOM POWER....if NOT...then ur mic is USELESS...wont work...with preamps....u can decide how much dbs,amp, ext. the mic puts out....if ur just starting.....i would get a pre-amp....or a small...yamaha mixing console.....with mxl 990.........but like Alk said....there atleast 10 way better mics then that.............

but with 70$.....ur screwed.......because what u wanna get isnt gonna give u much more qaulity then ur basic pc soundcard........if u want better qaulity...look into soundcards.....qaulity can come from what programs u use when u record...or what u record on......
